Relaxed foodie gem in Dullstroom
Bryan Wolmarans and Stephen de Meyer are known foodies and hospitable restauranteurs in the Dullstroom area.
Their restaurant ‘Mrs Simpson’s’, situated off the main road in an older area of Dullstroom, is distinctly owner-operated as they guide the whole process from welcoming the guests and taking the orders to whipping up comforting contemporary dishes in the kitchen.
Mrs Simpson’s has been open for three years now, serving everything from great seafood dishes to well-matured steaks with chocolate chilli sauce. The Moroccan prawns, mussels and shrimps looks enticing, as does the Oven-roasted confit of duck with plum & berry sauce. There are also lighter meals and salads, with the Butternut, biltong and feta salad being a firm favourite.
The quirky décor is a definite talking point for first time visitors and the restaurant takes its name after the late Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson.
As an ode to Wallis, there are old-style shoes on the walls, photos of Wallis and feather boas, furs and bags dot the room.
There is also an upstairs section with a fireplace, making it incredibly welcoming and homely, as well as a separate smoking section - the layout is great for functions.
If you’re looking for a great honest meal with a dollop of eccentricity, you know where to go when you’re next in the area.

My husband and I had dinner at your restaurant about two weeks ago. I must say very interesting décor and story. The food was scrumptious and elegantly presented. Will definitely pop in the next time we are in Dullstroom.
For a change we found a cozy restaurant with great food.

I found your website in the internet and was quite surprised. It is great and gives a lot of information. The reason I am writing this email is that I want to let you know that I recommended your restaurant in a German and Swiss travel site (travel forum). So I hope that a few people will visit you. I was in contact with a Swiss lady who is travelling to SA in November and was looking for a place to eat in Dullstroom. I thought there is no better place for them than Mrs Simpson's and I told them to eat a filet with chilli-chocolate for me. I hope they are going to come and have a nice lunch in your restaurant.

We would like to send a short note to express just how much we enjoyed Saturday evening in the Duke's Lounge. Immediately the welcoming warm ambience made us relax on that cold, wet evening and a wonderful memory of a delightful evening and marvellous cuisine, will remain with us for the whole year until we can come back.
To Al, the chef and all the staff our highest accolades ...it was such a sumptuous feast.

We were 3 Adults, and 2 kids, aged 5 and 8.This was not the first time I have been there, but for the others, it was.
One of the people with me is quite an influential business man and eats out at least three to four times a week - in Johannesburg - and had the most wonderful meal yet. He had the seafood pasta and could not stop talking about it. His wife had the veal shank and her comment: " absolutely fantastic, tender, tasty and great presentation". I had the grilled pork chops. As a pork lover, they were the best I have yet encountered at any restaurant in South Africa.
The crème brulee for dessert, wow!!!!! The best I have yet had and this was echoed by my guests as well.
Accommodating the kids was no problem at all. They had their own meals - fish and chips - and the presentation did not waiver from that of the adults meals. Even down to the ice cream and chocolate sauce and they were served quickly as requested. They even had a place where they could lie down - on couches - after eating while the adults were still busy. No rushing in this restaurant!!
Do your self a favour, DON'T MISS OUT ON EATING AT Mrs Simpsons as the experience, friendliness, ambience, service and the whole atmosphere cannot be equalled any where in Dullstroom and would be hard to find in most other towns/cities.
I wouldn't go so far as to say "Give them a try" but rather "Go, relax, enjoy and make your next booking before leaving".
I, together with my guests, would highly recommend Mrs Simpsons to any person/s wanting to have a value for money, no hassles and great food restaurant.
